Documents and reality

Plans, age, alterations and known defects provide context but must be compared with actual conditions. Not every wall is structural, and not every massive element can carry new concentrated loads. Site assessment clarifies material, condition and connections.

New openings and heavy installations

A secondary exit may be essential yet can weaken a wall or slab. Heavy doors, batteries, water tanks and shelving also impose loads. Position, support, anchorage and escape width must be designed together.

Describe performance honestly

Without a verified design, no specific performance against blast, collapse or radiation can be promised. These lessons therefore focus on safe occupancy, fire and smoke, water, exits and reliable operation. Higher performance requires qualified engineering.
