Create a clean area for drinking water, food and medication. Keep toilet waste, grey water and rubbish separate. Hand hygiene after toilet use and before food contact is a high priority. Wipes and sanitiser may save water but do not replace cleaning in every situation.
If sewer lines or flushing fail, stop uncontrolled toilet use. Line a stable bucket or bowl with a strong bag, add absorbent material and keep a lid, gloves, hand-cleaning supplies and a second sealed outer container ready. Close bags without compressing them, store away from food and water, and follow local disposal instructions. Never empty waste into waterways or storm drains.
Keep refrigeration closed and use available thermometers. Use perishable food first only while it remains safe. Appearance and smell do not always reveal danger. When in doubt or after a substantial temperature failure, discard vulnerable food; food poisoning intensifies an emergency.
